Internship Opportunity Description:

Intern will assist in developing and teaching an art component, and theme based lessons to be translated into the Mathobotix eleven week summer camp programming. Robotics is a multi-disciplinary subject. Mathobotix camps offer K - 8 students a robotics education platform using various Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math subjects from a project based curriculum. Sample set of topics include Introduction to Robotics, Types of Robots, Safety Instruction, Introduction To Engineering, Design Process, Project Management, Team building, Adding Motion to the Robot (Physics), Powering the Robot (Basic Electricity), Structural Stability, Logic/Programming, Microcontroller, Sensors, Joystick controls, etc. Projects are built using the Lego© Mindstorm© and other Open Source platforms and components. Successful candidates will work with Mathobotix and UCI resources and acquire valuable educational and career skills and build a strong resume for future.

Preferred knowledge/skill:
  • Background in art with a focus on technology and media arts
  • Spoken and written communication skills
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Creative thinker and problem-solver
  • Ability to work well with students ages 6 - 14.
  • Be an inspiration and positive role-model to the young scientists.
  • Motivation and willingness to create an energetic, fun-filled safe learning environment
  • Leadership and presentation skills will be a great plus
  • Hardware, software, and programming (some training provided)
  • Systems engineering (some training provided)
Social Responsibilities / Duty of Care with young scientists:
  • Chaperoning during break times
  • Keeping lab area tidy and clean
  • Ensure - Campers are learning STEAM subjects; Campers are having fun; and Campers are safe.
Required:
  • Education: In progress toward Bachelors Degree or higher. (Prefer: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math or related field.)
  • Pre-requisite: 20 hr shadow training at Mathobotix- Irvine prior to camp. UCI SWE, ESC student members, FLL Volunteers, Science, Math, Education, Art & Technology, Engineering Majors, and Digital Arts Minors, are given higher priority.
  • Intern must agree to federal background check prior to working with children.
Camp Hours: Flexible 40 hours a week (8:30am - 4:30pm)
